The ICO has recently issued sanctions against a Canadian company and French regulators recently fined Google 50M euros for a lack of transparency, inadequate information and lack of valid consent regarding the personalisation of advertisements.
EU GDPR has set the scene for a worldwide change; the state of California has put in place GDPR-style data protection regulations and the US federal government looks set to follow suit.
