“Our challenge is to package up GDPR so that consumers are still engaged and we don’t see GDPR fatigue.” Richard Merrygold, Data Protection Officer Homeserve, talked to Karla Reffold. Richard tells us that pre 25 May 2018 no-one understood who had their information but now with the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica story and British Airways databreach consumer awareness has increased. The new GDPR regulations caused a great deal of confusion and misinterpretation, with schools writing to parents asking for consent to read their childs name out for attendance register.  People were deluged with GDPR consent emails and are now starting to understand their rights. 2019 will see greater consumer engagement, GDPR enforcement from the ICO and class action.
